Where to Go for Transmission Repairs

The transmission system in your vehicle is bound to fail at least once during the lifetime of your vehicle. Having to undertake transmission repairs for the first time can be a somewhat frustrating experience.

The first thing you'll need to decide is where to take your vehicle for the required repair. Should you go to the dealership auto repair centre or should you opt for your local auto repair shop?

Where you will choose to have these repairs undertaken is a product of a combination of factors. In order to help you with this decision, here is a comparison of what you should expect at the dealership centre and what you should expect at your local auto repair shop.

Cost

When it comes to the question of cost, you can reasonably expect to pay more for transmission repairs at a dealership service centre than you would at your local auto repair shop. While cost is not the only factor to consider when making this decision, it is probably the one factor that will have the most impact on your ultimate decision.

Remember that transmission repairs are not the kind of repairs that you want to delay unless you intend to not use the car until you can afford to have such repairs done.

If you're working with a tight budget, the local auto repair shop will prove to be a better option.

Quality of Service

With regards to the quality of service, you can reasonably expect a higher service standard at a dealership service centre than at your local auto repair shop. This is because the dealership service centre is bound to have invested in more sophisticated equipment than what is likely to be available from your local auto repair shop. Professional auto repair equipment is relatively expensive and the dealership service centre has a higher purchasing power than the local repairs shop.

Similarly, dealership service centres have continuous employee training programs for their technicians in order to keep them up to date with the latest trends in the vehicle repair industry, though local shops may also do trainings like this.

Customer Service

You're more likely to get a cup of coffee or a free windshield clean at the dealership service centre as your transmission system is checked out. But you may get more personalised service at a local shop because of the small size of many local repair shops.

Keep these variables in mind as you look for a car service centre to take your vehicle to.
