Three Warning Signs that You Need Tyre Replacement

One of the crucial determinants of the safety you will experience when using your vehicle is the condition of your wheels. Now that the summer has come to an end, ushering in autumn, tyre blowouts are likely to be more common than the other seasons. This is because of the distances travelled in summer, on hot roads and with lots of luggage, which leads to excessive wear and tear. Autumn, therefore, is usually the best time to check the condition of your tyres, assess the level of wear and decide if they need to be replaced. Here are three warning signs that you need tyre replacement.

Tyre Warning Light

The first indication that you have tyre trouble should be the tyre indication light. Once this light goes on, it is an indication that you have low pressure in your tyres. The warning sign on most new vehicle models is a U with an exclamation mark inside. This exclamation indicates that the tyre pressure is lower than what is recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. You can choose to check the cause of the low pressure for yourself or to involve a professional mechanic in the process.

Low Tyre Tread

Another indication that your car needs new wheels is when the tread has become worn out in an unusual pattern. Tyre tread is important because it ensures your vehicle has traction when moving on the road. When the tread wears out, traction decreases greatly. It means that the vehicle will keep sliding dangerously all over the road and can easily cause an accident. Note that low tyre tread can indicate your car has over-inflated, under-inflated, misaligned and otherwise damaged tyres.

Vibration on the Tyres

The third warning sign that you need to replace your tyres is when they start vibrating, even on smooth roads. It is normal for vehicles to vibrate on rough roads; however, if this problem persists on all surfaces, it could be an alignment problem or trouble with your vehicle's suspension.  Only a qualified auto mechanic can check the wheels and tyres to decide where the problem lies and how it can be resolved.

These are a few indicators of a vehicle with wheel and tyre problems. Others include wear on one side, which normally indicates that a tyre has been inflated on one side, and flat tyres, which are the result of the constant wear. It is advisable to always have an expert check your vehicle to determine the exact cause of the problem. Once the problem has been identified, solving it becomes extremely easy.
